Other types of vehicle

You catch up with a milk float, a slow electric vehicle, on a town road. What is the best approach?

  • Be patient and overtake only when there is a safe, clear gap
    Correct
  • Overtake at once, as electric vehicles are always slow
  • Drive close behind so its driver speeds up
  • Sound your horn until it pulls over

Why?

A milk float is slow and nearly silent, so you may come upon it suddenly. Rule 163 of The Highway Code says to overtake only when it is safe and legal, giving the vehicle plenty of room. Stay patient until you have a clear, safe stretch of road.
