A cyclist ahead is pulling a small child trailer behind the bike. What should you do when passing?
- Pass as close as you would a parked car
- Rev your engine so they hear you coming
- Expect the trailer to keep perfectly straight
- Give extra room and pass slowly, as the trailer is wide and less stableCorrect
Why?
A bike towing a child trailer is wider and less stable, and carries a child low down. Rule 213 of The Highway Code says to give cyclists plenty of room, and here you should pass slowly and leave even more space than usual.
