Other types of vehicle

You are following a taxi in town. Why should you keep a good distance behind it?

  • It may stop suddenly to pick up or set down passengers
    Correct
  • Taxis are not allowed to be overtaken
  • Taxis always travel faster than other traffic
  • It saves you a large amount of fuel

Why?

Taxis often stop suddenly and with little warning to pick up or drop off passengers. Rule 126 of The Highway Code says to leave enough space to pull up safely if the vehicle in front stops, so keep well back and stay ready.
