In strong side winds you are driving near a high-sided lorry. Why should you keep extra distance from it?
- High-sided lorries use less fuel in wind
- The wind makes the lorry travel much faster
- It has no effect; wind only troubles small cars
- A gust can blow the lorry sideways across the laneCorrect
Why?
Rule 232 of The Highway Code warns that high-sided vehicles are affected by side wind, and that gusts can blow them off course, especially on exposed roads and bridges. Keep extra distance so you have room if it is pushed towards you.
