Rules of the road

A bus at a bus stop is signalling to pull out into the traffic. What should you normally do?

  • Overtake it quickly before it moves
  • Sound your horn to warn it off
  • Expect it to wait for all the traffic
  • Give way and let it pull out when it is safe
    Correct

Why?

Rule 223 of The Highway Code says to give priority to buses, coaches and trams when you can do so safely, especially when they signal to pull away from a stop. Watch also for people getting off and crossing the road.
