Safety and your vehicle

You are leaving your car parked in a town centre. How can you help keep it secure?

  • Lock it, close the windows and put any valuables out of sight
    Correct
  • Leave a window open so the car does not get too hot
  • Leave your bag on the seat so you can see it from a shop
  • Leave the key in the ignition so you can get away quickly

Why?

Thieves look for easy targets. Rule 239 of The Highway Code says that when you leave your vehicle you should remove the key, lock it, close the windows and take valuables with you or lock them out of sight, to reduce the chance of theft.
