Your car is fitted with anti-lock brakes (ABS). What should you NOT assume about them?

That they help you keep steering control when braking hard
That you should read the vehicle handbook for advice
That they will always stop the car in a shorter distance

Why?

Rule 120 of The Highway Code notes that ABS helps you keep steering control during hard braking, but you must not assume a car with ABS will stop in a shorter distance. You still need to leave a safe gap and drive to the conditions.
