Vehicle handling
You are about to pass a high-sided lorry on a windy day. What should you expect?
- The lorry will shield you completely from the wind
- Your steering will lock while you pass
- You should switch off your headlights
- You may feel a sudden gust as you clear the lorry, so take extra careCorrect
Why?
Rule 232 of The Highway Code explains that high-sided vehicles are most affected by wind and can be blown off course, and you can be buffeted by a strong gust as you pass or clear them. Take extra care and keep a firm hold of the wheel.
