Vehicle handling

You are driving in fog and need to slow down. What should you do to warn the driver behind?

  • Check your mirrors, then brake so your brake lights show
    Correct
  • Slow down suddenly without touching the brakes
  • Put on your hazard lights and keep the same speed
  • Wave your arm out of the window

Why?

Rule 235 of The Highway Code says that in fog you should check your mirrors before you slow down, then use your brakes so that your brake lights warn drivers behind that you are slowing. Keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
