Vehicle handling

It is dark and a vehicle is coming towards you. What must you do with your headlights?

  • Keep them on main beam so the other driver sees you
  • Switch them off until the vehicle passes
  • Dip them so you do not dazzle the oncoming driver
    Correct
  • Flash them repeatedly

Why?

Rule 114 of The Highway Code says you MUST NOT use any lights in a way that would dazzle other road users, so dip your headlights from main beam when meeting oncoming traffic to avoid blinding the other driver.
