Vehicle handling

You are driving on a narrow country lane. What should you especially be prepared for?

  • Mud on the road, slow farm vehicles and horse riders, so keep your speed down
    Correct
  • A clear, fast road with no other users
  • Wide lanes that let you overtake anywhere
  • Motorway-style slip roads joining from the left

Why?

Rule 154 of The Highway Code says to reduce your speed on country roads and be prepared for hazards such as mud on the road, slow-moving farm vehicles, horse riders, cyclists and pedestrians, and to make sure you can stop within the distance you can see to be clear.
