Vulnerable road users
An elderly pedestrian is crossing the road slowly in front of you. What is the best thing to do?
- Rev your engine to encourage them to hurry
- Wait patiently and let them cross in their own timeCorrect
- Edge forward slowly to make them speed up
- Drive around them while they are still crossing
Why?
Rule 207 of The Highway Code says older people may need more time to cross. Be patient and let them cross in their own time; do not hurry them by revving your engine or edging forward.
