Alertness

You're approaching a pedestrian crossing where parked cars block your view of the pavement. How should you react?

  • Keep your speed and sound your horn
  • Assume no one will step out and drive on
  • Slow down, ready to stop, as someone may cross between the cars
    Correct
  • Move to the right to get a better angle

Why?

Parked vehicles can hide people who are about to cross, especially children. Rule 191 of The Highway Code says you must take extra care where your view of a crossing is blocked by queuing or incorrectly parked vehicles, as pedestrians may be crossing between them.
