Alertness
You have just had an upsetting argument and feel angry. How might this affect your driving?
- It improves your focus because you are alert
- Strong emotion can reduce your concentration, so wait until you calm downCorrect
- It has no effect once you start the engine
- It only matters on long journeys
Why?
Safe driving needs full concentration, and strong feelings like anger pull your mind away from the road. Rule 148 of The Highway Code says safe driving needs concentration and that you should avoid distractions, so it is safer to wait until you feel calm before driving.
