You reach a yellow box junction, but traffic ahead means your exit road is blocked. What should you do?

  • Wait before the box until your exit is clear
    Correct
  • Enter the box and stop inside it to hold your place
  • Drive into the box and edge forward slowly
  • Cross the box quickly before the gap closes

Why?

Rule 174 says you MUST NOT enter a box junction until your exit road or lane is clear. Waiting before the box keeps the junction free for traffic crossing it and is more considerate to others.
