Where must L plates be displayed on a car being driven by a learner?

  • Clearly on the front and the back of the car
    Correct
  • On the inside of the windscreen only
  • On the driver's door only
  • Only on the back of the car

Why?

A learner must show red L plates (or D plates in Wales) that can be seen clearly from both the front and the back of the vehicle. Plates in the windscreen alone are not enough. Displaying L plates is one of the provisional licence conditions covered in Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
