Where must L plates be displayed on a car being driven by a learner?

Clearly on the front and the back of the car
Correct
On the inside of the windscreen only
On the driver's door only
Only on the back of the car

Why?

A learner must show red L plates (or D plates in Wales) that can be seen clearly from both the front and the back of the vehicle. Plates in the windscreen alone are not enough. Displaying L plates is one of the provisional licence conditions covered in Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
