A driver who passed their test 8 months ago gets 6 penalty points. What happens to their licence?
- They keep it but pay a small fine
- They get a warning letter only
- Nothing until they reach 12 points
- Their licence is revoked and they must reapply and retake both testsCorrect
Why?
Under the New Drivers rules, if you get 6 or more penalty points within 2 years of passing your first test, your licence is revoked. You must then reapply for a provisional licence and pass both the theory and practical tests again. Penalties are listed in Annex 5 of The Highway Code.
