Essential documents

You develop a health condition that could affect your driving. What should you do?

  • Tell the DVLA about the condition
    Correct
  • Only stop driving at night
  • Do nothing unless the police ask
  • Tell only your family and keep driving as normal

Why?

The law says you must tell the DVLA about any medical condition that could affect your ability to drive safely, such as certain eyesight, heart or neurological problems. Not reporting it is against the law and can invalidate your insurance. Fitness to drive is part of the document rules in Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
