What is the basic eyesight standard you must meet to drive a car?
- Read any road sign at 50 metres
- See clearly only in bright daylight
- Read a vehicle number plate from 20 metres, with glasses if neededCorrect
- Pass an eye test at a hospital every year
Why?
Rule 92 of The Highway Code says you must be able to read a vehicle number plate, in good daylight, from 20 metres. If you need glasses or contact lenses to do this, you must wear them every time you drive. Failing this standard means you are not fit to drive.
