Essential documents
You have passed your driving test today. What should you do with the L plates on your car?
- Leave them on for your first year of driving
- Move them to the rear window only
- Keep them but cover them with tape
- Remove them, as you no longer need to display themCorrect
Why?
L plates warn other road users that a learner is driving and must be shown while you hold only a provisional licence. Once you pass and hold a full licence you must remove them, because you may then drive on your own. These plate rules are part of Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
