What does the V5C vehicle registration certificate NOT prove?
- Who the registered keeper of the vehicle is
- Which vehicle the certificate belongs to
- That you are the legal owner of the vehicleCorrect
- The make and colour of the vehicle
Why?
The V5C shows the registered keeper and details of the vehicle, but it is not proof of legal ownership. The keeper responsible for taxing and registering the car is not always the person who legally owns it. The V5C is one of the documents in Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
