You are approaching a horse and rider on the road ahead. How should you pass them?
- Rev your engine so the horse knows you are there
- Slow to a maximum of 10 mph and pass wide and slowCorrect
- Sound your horn and pass quickly
- Drive close behind until they move onto the verge
Why?
Rule 215 of The Highway Code says when you see a horse on the road, slow to a maximum of 10 mph, be patient and pass wide and slow, because horses can be easily frightened and may move suddenly. Rule 214 adds to be ready to stop.
