Incidents, accidents and emergencies

Why should you never place a warning triangle on the hard shoulder of a motorway?

  • Because triangles are only allowed on country roads
  • Because walking on the carriageway to set it out is too dangerous
    Correct
  • Because the wind would simply blow it away
  • Because it would block the view of the cameras

Why?

Rule 274 of The Highway Code says you should never use a warning triangle on a motorway. Walking along the hard shoulder to place it, so close to fast traffic, puts you in great danger. On other roads, place one at least 45 metres behind the vehicle.
