Your car has broken down on an ordinary road. Where should you place a warning triangle?
- At least 45 metres behind the car on the same side of the roadCorrect
- Directly behind the car so it is easy to see
- At least 45 metres in front of the car
- On the opposite side of the road, facing the traffic
Why?
A warning triangle lets drivers behind you know there is a hazard ahead in good time. Rule 274 of The Highway Code says to place it at least 45 metres (147 feet) behind your vehicle on the same side of the road. You must never use one on a motorway, because walking on the carriageway is far too dangerous.
