Incidents, accidents and emergencies
You are first to arrive at a crash. Using the first-aid check DR ABC, what must you do before you touch any casualty?
- Check that it is safe and there is no danger to you or othersCorrect
- Give the casualty a warm drink to calm them
- Remove any motorcyclist's helmet straight away
- Move the casualty onto the pavement
Why?
The first-aid routine in Annex 7 of The Highway Code is DR ABC, and the 'D' stands for Danger. Before you help anyone you must make sure the scene is safe, for example by switching off engines and warning other traffic, so you don't become a casualty yourself.
