A casualty is unconscious but breathing normally and has no other life-threatening injury. What should you do?
- Sit them upright against a wall
- Keep them flat on their back and give them a drink
- Walk them around to keep them awake
- Place them in the recovery positionCorrect
Why?
Annex 7 of The Highway Code says an unconscious casualty who is breathing should be placed in the recovery position. Lying on their side keeps the airway open and lets any fluid drain from the mouth, which lowers the risk of choking while you wait for the ambulance.
