A casualty has a piece of glass stuck in a bleeding wound. How should you try to control the bleeding?
- Pull the glass out, then press on the wound
- Press down hard directly on the glass
- Build up padding on either side of the glass without pressing on itCorrect
- Leave the wound alone until the ambulance arrives
Why?
Annex 7 of The Highway Code says that if something is embedded in a wound you should not press on it or pull it out. Instead build up padding on either side of the object so you can press around it. Removing it could cause much heavier bleeding.
