Incidents, accidents and emergencies
You stop to help at a crash scene. What is the best way to deal with danger first?
- Light a cigarette to help you stay calm
- Start moving the vehicles off the road
- Switch off all engines, warn other traffic and stop anyone from smokingCorrect
- Collect the drivers' insurance details before anything else
Why?
Annex 7 of The Highway Code says the first step is to deal with danger. Switch off all engines, warn other traffic, and make sure nobody smokes, because spilt fuel can catch fire easily. Making the scene safe protects the casualties and everyone helping.
