Incidents, accidents and emergencies

You witness a crash and phone for help. What information is most useful to give the emergency services?

  • Only your own name and phone number
  • The make and colour of your own car
  • The exact location, the number of vehicles and the condition of any casualties
    Correct
  • Your opinion on who was to blame for the crash

Why?

Annex 7 of The Highway Code and Rule 283 say that when you call 999 or 112 you should give the exact location, the number of vehicles involved and details of any casualties. Clear information helps the emergency services send the right help to the right place quickly.
