You come across a crash on an ordinary road. Other traffic hasn't noticed it yet. What should you do first?
- Move any injured people out of their vehicles straight away
- Switch on your hazard warning lights to warn approaching trafficCorrect
- Drive on, since it's not your responsibility
- Remove any motorcyclist's helmet so you can check their breathing
Why?
Rule 283 of The Highway Code says that at the scene of an incident you should warn other traffic, for example by switching on your hazard warning lights. You should only move uninjured people away from immediate danger, and you shouldn't move injured people or remove a motorcyclist's helmet unless it's essential.
