Road and traffic signs

Crossroads ahead

You see this triangular sign. What should you expect ahead?

  • A level crossing with barriers
  • A crossroads where other traffic may cross your path
    Correct
  • A hospital with a pedestrian crossing
  • The end of a dual carriageway

Why?

Triangular signs with a red border warn you about hazards ahead — they don't give orders. The cross symbol means a crossroads is coming, so slow down and watch for vehicles joining or crossing from the side roads. The Highway Code's traffic signs section groups all warning signs by this triangular shape.
