Road and traffic signs

In the normal UK traffic light sequence, which light shows straight after green?

  • Red and amber together
  • Amber on its own
    Correct
  • Red on its own
  • A flashing green light

Why?

The UK sequence runs red, red and amber, green, then amber on its own, then red again. Amber follows green to warn you to stop, unless you have crossed the line or are too close to stop safely. Rule 109 of The Highway Code sets out these light signals.
