An ambulance behind you is using flashing blue lights and a siren. What should you do?

  • Pull over safely to let it pass, obeying traffic signs
    Correct
  • Brake hard and stop exactly where you are
  • Speed up to stay ahead of it
  • Mount the pavement to get out of the way

Why?

Rule 219 of The Highway Code says to look and listen for emergency vehicles using flashing blue, red or green lights, and take suitable action to let them pass, without breaking the law, mounting the kerb or putting others in danger.
