Safety and your vehicle

What is a sensible check to make before a long journey in case you get a flat tyre?

  • Nothing, as you can always drive on a flat tyre
  • Check the spare wheel or tyre repair kit is present and in good order
    Correct
  • Remove the spare wheel to save weight
  • Let down one tyre so it matches the spare

Why?

A puncture far from home is much easier to deal with if you are prepared. Annex 6 of The Highway Code stresses keeping your vehicle roadworthy, so before a long trip check that your spare wheel is inflated or your tyre repair kit is complete and usable.
