Vehicle handling
You are approaching a hazard where you may need to slow down and then accelerate away. When should you select the right gear?
- Only after you have started to turn or move off
- In good time before the hazard, so both hands are free to steer through itCorrect
- Never change gear near a hazard
- Only once the car has almost stopped
Why?
Rule 160 of The Highway Code says that once moving you should drive in the correct gear for the conditions and select it in good time. Choosing the right gear before a hazard lets you keep both hands on the wheel and stay in full control through it.
