You are driving along a residential street with parked cars on both sides. The speed limit is 30 mph. How fast should you go?
- Exactly 30 mph, because that is allowed
- Above 30 mph if the road looks empty
- 30 mph until you actually see a pedestrian
- Well below the limit, because the limit is a maximum, not a safe targetCorrect
Why?
Rule 125 of The Highway Code says the speed limit is the absolute maximum and does not mean it is safe to drive at that speed in all conditions. On a street with parked cars and possible pedestrians, drive well below the limit.
