When are you allowed to switch on your front or rear fog lights?
- At any time during autumn and winter
- Only when visibility is seriously reduced, generally to 100 metres or lessCorrect
- Whenever it is raining lightly
- Only at night on lit roads
Why?
Rules 226 and 236 of The Highway Code say you may use fog lights only when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see more than 100 metres, and you MUST switch them off when visibility improves so they do not dazzle others or mask your brake lights.
