Vehicle loading

You are driving a van that is fully loaded and has no rear window. How do you check the traffic behind?

  • Turn round in your seat while driving
  • Open the back doors a little
  • Use both door (wing) mirrors
    Correct
  • Rely only on the interior mirror

Why?

Rule 98 of The Highway Code says a load must not obstruct your view and the vehicle must stay safe to drive. A loaded van has no view through the interior mirror, so you must rely on both door mirrors and check them frequently to see traffic behind.
