Vehicle loading

You have unhitched a loaded trailer and left it parked. How do you stop it rolling away?

  • Leave it in the middle of the road
  • Rest it against another car
  • Balance it on its jockey wheel only
  • Apply its parking brake and chock the wheels
    Correct

Why?

Rule 98 of The Highway Code requires a trailer to be roadworthy and controlled. When you leave a trailer uncoupled, apply its parking brake and use wheel chocks if needed, especially on a slope, so it cannot roll away and cause a hazard.
