Until what age or height must a child normally use a proper child car seat or booster seat?

  • Until they are 8 years old or 100 cm tall
  • Until they are 12 years old or 135 cm tall, whichever comes first
    Correct
  • Until they are 16 years old, regardless of height
  • There is no legal requirement once a seatbelt fits

Why?

Rule 99 of The Highway Code says children must normally use an appropriate child restraint until they are 12 years old or 135 cm tall, whichever they reach first. After that, they can use an adult seatbelt as long as it fits properly.
