Vehicle loading

You're loading panniers on your motorcycle. How should you spread the weight?

  • Put all the weight in one pannier
  • Spread it evenly between both sides
    Correct
  • Load the top-box as heavily as you can
  • Keep all the weight at the very back

Why?

Rule 98 of The Highway Code says a load must be secure and not make the machine unstable. Uneven panniers pull the motorcycle to one side and make it hard to steer, so keep the load even on both sides and low, and don't overload the top-box.
