Before towing, which of these should you check on the trailer?

The colour of its paintwork
The tyres and the coupling to the tow ball
Correct
The age of its number plate
Only the fuel level in the car

Why?

Rule 98 of The Highway Code requires the trailer and towing equipment to be roadworthy. Check the tyres are legal and correctly inflated and that the coupling is locked onto the tow ball, with a breakaway cable or secondary coupling fitted.
