How should you carry a dog in your car?

  • Loose on the back seat
  • On the driver's lap
  • With its head out of the window
  • Suitably restrained, such as with a harness or in a cage
    Correct

Why?

Rule 57 of The Highway Code says dogs and other animals must be suitably restrained so they cannot distract you or injure themselves or you if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are all safe ways to do this.
