Vehicle loading

Where can you find the maximum weight a trailer itself is allowed to carry?

  • On the trailer's plate showing its maximum weight
    Correct
  • On the car's tax disc
  • By guessing from the trailer's size
  • It is the same as the car's fuel capacity

Why?

Rule 98 of The Highway Code says you must not overload the trailer. Its maker's plate shows the maximum gross weight it may carry; you must load it so the total of trailer plus load stays within that figure, or it becomes unsafe and illegal.
