Vehicle loading
You have placed a heavy box on the roof rack. How should you tie it down?
- With one strap in the middle only
- Loosely, so it can settle as you drive
- Firmly at the front and rear so it cannot slideCorrect
- Only across the width, not the length
Why?
Rule 98 of The Highway Code says a load must be secured so it cannot move or fall off. Tie a roof load firmly at both the front and the rear so that hard braking cannot throw it forward and acceleration cannot slide it back off the rack.
