You have placed a heavy box on the roof rack. How should you tie it down?

With one strap in the middle only
Loosely, so it can settle as you drive
Firmly at the front and rear so it cannot slide
Correct
Only across the width, not the length

Why?

Rule 98 of The Highway Code says a load must be secured so it cannot move or fall off. Tie a roof load firmly at both the front and the rear so that hard braking cannot throw it forward and acceleration cannot slide it back off the rack.
