Ahead, an oncoming vehicle is about to pass some parked cars on its own side of the road. What should you anticipate?
- It will always wait for you, so no action is needed
- It may move onto your side of the road, so be ready to slow or hold backCorrect
- You have priority and should keep your speed
- The parked cars will move out of the way first
Why?
Rule 163 of The Highway Code says give way to oncoming vehicles before passing parked cars or obstructions on your side — and the same applies in reverse. An oncoming driver may pull onto your side to pass, so anticipate this (Rule 146) and be ready to slow.
