Safety and your vehicle

Why must your headlights be correctly adjusted?

  • So they light the road without dazzling other road users
    Correct
  • So they point straight up to light road signs
  • So they use as much battery as possible
  • So they are brighter than every other car's lights

Why?

Lights aimed too high can blind oncoming drivers and cause a crash. Annex 6 of The Highway Code says lights must be properly adjusted so they do not dazzle other road users, while still lighting the road ahead for you.
