Safety and your vehicle
While braking you notice the brake pedal feels soft and the car pulls to one side. What should you do?
- Keep driving as normal, as brakes often feel like this
- Pump the pedal hard and ignore the pulling
- Turn the radio up so you cannot hear the noise
- Treat it as a fault and have the brakes checked before driving furtherCorrect
Why?
A soft pedal or pulling to one side can mean low brake fluid, worn pads or a leak. Annex 6 of The Highway Code says brakes must be in good working order, so stop and have any braking fault checked before you drive on.
