Vehicle handling
You are driving on an unlit country road at night and cannot see far around the bends. How fast should you drive?
- At the road's speed limit, whatever you can see
- Slow enough to stop safely within the distance you can see to be clearCorrect
- As fast as the car in front is going
- Fast enough to reach a lit road quickly
Why?
Rule 126 of The Highway Code says you should always drive at a speed that lets you stop well within the distance you can see to be clear. At night on unlit bends this distance is short, so your speed must be low.
