You want to overtake a cyclist while driving at about 30 mph. How much room should you give them?

About half a metre is enough at that speed
As little room as needed to squeeze past
At least 1.5 metres, and more at higher speeds

Only enough to avoid touching the cyclist

Why?

Rule 163 says you should leave at least 1.5 metres when overtaking cyclists at speeds of up to 30 mph, and give them more space at higher speeds. If you cannot leave that room, wait until you can.
